Rules and other
information for comedians
-
Entries - 80 comedians that are working Headliners, Middle acts,
Opening acts, Open Mikers from all over California are invited to
participate.

Show dates - You will notified by email a week to two weeks prior to your
performance date. All shows are on Wednesday nights at 8 PM at the SJ Improv 62
S 2nd in Downtown San Jose. Current contest winners and the upcoming next week
roster will be posted at

Elimination Round Pairings
Each round will pair two 1st through
4th place competitors from alternate rounds. Two from each Semi will advance
to the Final round. The Final 8 comedians from the 2004 Battle of the Bay are
given byes into the Quarterfinal Rounds.

Performance length – The prelim rounds are 5 minutes, quarter final
rounds are 8 Minutes, semi final rounds are 10 minutes
and the final round will be 12 minutes or more.

Prizes – Overall first place winner will receive $1000, a paid week booking at the
Improv and other assorted stuff, 2nd Place
will receive $500,a paid booking at an SF Comedy College affiliate room and
other assorted stuff, 3rd Place will receive $300, a paid booking
at an SF Comedy College affiliate room and other assorted stuff. 4th
through 9th place will receive assorted stuff.

Contest rules
-
Draw for order occurs at 7:10 PM in the upstairs green room
of the San Jose Improv.
Each contestant randomly draws from a deck of cards and then selects
preference. Comedians missing the draw will be assigned remaining spots alphabetically.

Each contestant will pick intro music and is responsible for
getting their selection to the soundman.

Contestants may remain in the green room or sit in the
showroom near the sound booth during the show.

Each contestant is given ½ price on food or non alcoholic
beverages.

Previous round winners are comped into the showroom for all
subsequent rounds.

Time starts when you begin speaking and you will be given a
one minute and end light. You may request any time/light combination.

There are three conditions for disqualification: going over
time, performing graphic descriptions of defecation or copulation or using
stolen material.

Five
Comedians from each Prelim Round will advance to the quarters, five
comedians advance from the quarters to the semis and five from each semi
advance to the finals.

Improv staff members count votes. You may request to view
ballots or know your total vote count at the end of the 15 week cycle.
