Audience crowns Michael Slack the 2005 winner
Sunnyvale (May 10, 2005) The San Francisco Comedy College (SFCC), one of
America’s finest and most innovative stand-up comedy schools, is proud to
announce SFCC graduate Michael Slack as the winner of the third annual comedy
competition held at the Rooster T. Feathers comedy club in Sunnyvale. Slack
emerged as the audience favorite in the competition finals held May 4 after two
months of weekly elimination rounds held Wednesday nights at the popular South
Bay venue.
Over 100 local comedians performed in this year’s Rooster T. Feathers
competition, including Sandi Selvi, Jen Kober, Anthony Hill, Gail Jones, Yayne
Abeba, Ken Townsend and David Van Avermate. Selvi, Hill, Townsend, Jones and Van
Avermate are all graduates of the SFCC. Van Avermate was also among the 12
finalists competing for the title on May 4. Owner and manager Heather Barbieri
oversaw the competition, adding her vote to the audience’s picks to determine
the winners. As the first place winner, Slack received $250, a gift certificate
for a meal at P.F. Chang’s and a week’s worth of paid work at Rooster T.
Feathers.
“It was a very exciting evening with some very funny folks who I am proud to
call friends,” said Slack. “I am grateful to everyone at the SFCC for their
support.”
Slack is a regular performer at the Improv in San Jose, as well as Cobb’s Comedy
Club, 50 Mason and the SFCC Clubhouse in San Francisco. He is also a member of
