Go on stage and improvise! This 10-week performance-based Improv class will get you on stage, performing your own material. The class covers both basic and advanced techniques to provide students with an intermediate understanding to playing well on stage. In the first part of the course, the building blocks of playing and universal skill building are introduced. Short-form games serve as skill set building exercises and the class will cover acting basic and move through the PUNCH method of Improv training. Topics covered to include Point of View, Universe, Need, Connection and Hurdles. This first five weeks will get you working with a group to take the stage with confidence and solid skills while the second five weeks will be focused on performance. Expanded games, short-form  exercises and long form scenes will prepare students for performance. Advanced techniques, including Object Work, Characters, Finding the Game and Exploring the Narrative Arc, will be covered. Performers will create and develop story, characters and games within scenes with longer and more involved play. Students will create a show for the final week in which they decide what styles of Improv will compose the show and are expected to study variations on existing games and formats for the show.
This course is for serious students wanting to gain the skill, language, and confidence of performance improv with a comedic focus and an expectation of quality. Students do not move on because they paid, they move on because they excel.

Using the basic principle of being informed, coupled with an in-depth understanding of point of view, this workshop on character development is designed to give the Improviser an actors take on building characters.

Game Within the Scene
This two-day intensive class will focus on finding and framing the game within the scene, identifying the pattern of the game and making it a cornerstone of the moment.

Editing for Long Form Improv
Formats and openers are examined with a focus on arc in this class, which also weighs editing versus entrances and exits. How an editor decides whether to add to or end a scene or when to bring a scene back will be discussed in this Long Form class.

Short Form Intensive
Students will spend two days of honing the Super Objective game play of Short Form Improv. Working on game instincts while attaining a nimble sense of play, this Short Form Intensive workshop will be bolstered by some of the best names in the business.

Playing the Harold
This class will focus on classic Long Form first played (and named) by San Francisco’s own infamous group, The Committee. We fon the opening, then on disseminating information from it to the group game, this two-day intensive will immerse the player in the Harold.

Chris Hayes has trained with Improv Olympic West, Theatre Sports, ComedySportz, and The Empty Stage as well as many, many others. Chris has been performing Improv for over 15 years, most recently with San Francisco’s Crisis Hopkins.
