Reggie Steele Bests Over 100 Comedians  For First Place

San Francisco (April 2, 2003)—Led by the first place finish of Oakland’s Reggie Steele, students and graduates of the San Francisco Comedy College took top honors in the Rooster T. Feathers Comedy Competition finals held March 30. Four of the eight finalists in the competition at the Sunnyvale nightclub were from the San Francisco Comedy College, said comedian and college founder Kurtis Matthews. Student George Corrigan finished third in the competition.  Other SFCC students participating in the finals were Mari Esther Kaplan and Ross Turner.    Semi-finalists from the  Comedy College included Stacey Ransom, Sal Calanni and Brian Pierce.  Matthews attributed Steele’s victory at the club  to his “personality, timing and the fact that he’s a great guy with a hard work ethic.”    More than 100 comedians took part in the competition. “I am really excited about winning this competition and the opportunity it provides,” said Steele, a 29-year-old native Alabaman. “I had a blast competing,” said contestant Turner, who lives in Santa Rosa.  “I’ve done many competitions in the past, and never had so much fun.”
