onsite clubs and offers more stage time for new talent then any comedy club in
the nation. Although our
focus is Stand Up, we do offer great Improv classes and people tell us that we are
very much like Second City in Chicago without the pesky snow or delightful odor of Lake Michigan. If you want to be
funny or funnier, we can teach you and we're the only comedy institution in America that

Random Quotes:
"... I was excited to meet the group of folks who are involved with
the San Francisco Comedy College. They are a very passionate group of people
with their hearts and minds in the right place. I was skeptical before I met
Kurtis Matthews and his comedians...and came away very impressed and
inspired. If only there were more institutions like the SF Comedy
College....there'd be less room for the hacks and empty-rhetoric comics that
permeate the stand-up world today."
" I've worked with Kurtis Matthews' students and his gifts as a
teacher are on display in their work. They have great comfort onstage,
they have material that is funny, tightly written and original. They are
distinctive personalities onstage and they communicate a love for
stand-up. All of these attributes are a testimony to Kurtis's prowess as
a teacher. I recommend him wholeheartedly."

"I love
the San Francisco Comedy College. Right now, it's the only venue that comes
close to recreating the magic of the ‘Zoo' and Matthews is producing today's
comedy stars of the future."

www.humormall.com"Thank you
so much for all of your guidance, wisdom...and brilliant joke tweaks! It
was amazing how you could watch our show, and fine tune every detail, til
it was a tight and clever piece of art! I cannot tell you how much I
appreciated all of the time and hard work you put into making our show the
best it could possibly be for last years "Just For Laughs" Comedy Festival
in Montreal. Since then we have gone onto many great opportunities, and we
will always come back to you for your expertise with every new frontier.
It is wonderful how you help so many people work on their craft and reach
for the stars. You make artists' dreams come true. Thank you again, you
provide an invaluable service, and one heck of a lot of fun on the journey
to perfection!"

I am very impressed with the caliber of talent and the solid comedy
teaching principles that come out of the San Francisco Comedy College.
Often, I'll meet a stand-up in Los Angeles and really enjoy them, and it
will turn out that they studied with Kurtis Matthews. Not only are the
comics true to themselves and their material but they support each others
success; that is rare in this business... I think it's important to generate
material as you grow as a performer and I had a great time working with
Kurtis doing just that. He really helped me generate a lot of honest new
material and stayed on my a** (stayed on me) to get it done. Kurtis is a nurturing, honest,
enthusiastic teacher who knows how to extract what is uniquely funny about
people. I feel fortunate to have crossed his path.

Claims by other instructors and coaches in the Bay Area as to equal or
better student accomplishment are pre SFCC establishment in 99, never substantiated in fact nor
verified by many of the comedians for which the trainers take credit. In
stark contrast to some in the Bay Area comedy instruction business, the SFCC does not claim
those that work with us one session or sit in our office for an hour as we
write jokes for them as students nor do we inaccurately equate stand up
training with TV and movie ACTING credits that are rightly attributed to ACTING teachers or solely upon the personal
accomplishment of the talent. All SFCC instructors are working comedians
with verifiable resumes and no comedy training facility or club in America offers more stage
time for new talent than the SFCC and two clubs within 'The Clubhouse' in SF.
We are happy to provide contact info for
all SFCC comedians with contest victories, national TV commercial, film and tv
roles. They will readily endorse the training they have received here!
